Accessible prenatal and postpartum support through movement, education, and community.

The Ma Circle Project brings prenatal and postpartum yoga, education, and community support to mamas through accessible Ma Circles, offered online and in partnership with local organizations.

What Happens in a Ma Circle

Each Ma Circle provides consistent support during pregnancy and postpartum.
Sessions include:

  • Prenatal and postpartum yoga to support the changing body
  • Education for pregnancy, birth, and recovery
  • Tools to reduce stress and build confidence
  • Connection with other mamas in a supportive environment

Sessions are simple, practical, and accessible, meeting mamas where they are.

Who It Serves

The Ma Circle Project is designed for pregnant and postpartum mamas, especially those who may not have access to consistent support, education, or community.

This includes:

  • Underserved communities
  • Mamas navigating pregnancy and postpartum without strong support systems
  • Anyone seeking accessible, supportive care

Why It Matters

The U.S. faces significant inequities in maternal health.

Black and Native American women are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes.

Research suggests these disparities are influenced by chronic stress, lack of support, and inequities in care.

Ma Circles are designed to address part of this gap by providing consistent support, movement, education, and community.

Why It Works

Research and experience show that movement, education, and community support can meaningfully improve pregnancy and postpartum outcomes.

Studies have shown that:

  • Reduced risk of preterm birth and low birth weight
  • Shorter labor and fewer medical interventions
  • Reduced back pain and physical discomfort
  • Lower anxiety during pregnancy
  • Improved mental health
  • Better postpartum recovery

↓ stress

↑ confidence

↑ support

↓ complications

These are simple, accessible supports that can make a meaningful difference in how mamas experience pregnancy, birth, and recovery.

Where It Happens

Ma Circles are offered online and in partnership with community organizations.

This allows the program to:

  • Reach mamas regardless of location
  • Expand through local partnerships
  • Adapt to the needs of different communities

MAMATHON

MAMATHON is a community-driven initiative that helps fund and expand Ma Circles. It brings together yoga teachers, doulas, and birth practitioners to support access to prenatal and postpartum care. Participation in MAMATHON helps make Ma Circles more widely available.
