About Ma Yoga

Ma Yoga is an alignment-based system of prenatal and postpartum yoga, education, and community support designed to improve how mamas experience pregnancy, birth, and recovery. It brings together movement, education, and connection in a way that is practical, accessible, and grounded in real experience.

OUR STORY

Jessica Jennings founded Ma Yoga while working at Kaiser Permanente in the OB/GYN Department, where she developed and led a group visit and prenatal yoga program as part of a six-year clinical study.

Through this work, she saw how yoga, education, and community can change pregnancies, labors, and lives.

Over years of teaching prenatal and postpartum yoga, she saw this again and again. Mamas felt more confident in their bodies, more prepared for birth, and more supported in recovery.
What started as classes grew into a deeper understanding that this kind of support should not be limited by location or resources.

Ma Yoga was created to make that support more accessible.
Hi. I'm Jessica.

I had been offering a weekend prenatal training since 2006, and in 2012 I started the 85-hour, Yoga Alliance-registered Ma Yoga Prenatal Certification Program (RPYT).

WHAT IS MA YOGA
Ma Yoga is guided by the Five Sacred Steps, an alignment framework that supports:

  • Openness in the body and breath
  • Groundedness and stability
  • Strength for pregnancy, birth, and recovery

Each practice brings together:

  • Movement that supports the changing body
  • Education for pregnancy, birth, and recovery
  • Practices to reduce stress and build confidence
  • Ongoing connection with other mamas

It helps relieve pain, prepare the body for labor and postpartum, and support a more connected, supported experience of pregnancy.
WHY A NONPROFIT
Pregnancy and early motherhood are often under-supported, especially for mamas without access to consistent care, education, or community.

Ma Yoga has seen how much changes when that support is present. But too often, it is only available to those who can afford it or know where to find it.

Operating as a nonprofit allows Ma Yoga to expand access so more mamas can receive support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Through this model, we can:

  • Offer low-cost, accessible programs
  • Partner with organizations and communities
  • Bring support to mamas who might not otherwise have access

Where mamas feel more confident in their bodies, more prepared for birth, and more supported in recovery. Where no one has to go through this time alone.

EXPERIENCE AND REACH

Ma Yoga has supported thousands of mamas through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, both online and in community settings. Through classes and ongoing programs, this work continues to expand, bringing accessible, alignment-based support to mamas in different stages of pregnancy and motherhood. Ma Yoga is supported by its sister organization, Ma Yoga Living, which provides trainings and education for yoga teachers and birth practitioners.
